Buttevant Sewerage Scheme

Description of Project:

M&B Construction Ltd was the Main Contractor on this project and was appointed to the role of Project Supervisor Construction Stage.

The contract included the construction of 7 km of new pipework in Buttevant Town including a new gravity sewer network, rising mains, watermains and pumping stations. Significant pipeline works were undertaken on the Main N20 (Cork-Limerick) National Primary Route and the Contractor was required to maintain high volume traffic flows and accommodate access to businesses at all times during the execution of the works. The following is a brief description of some of the works undertaken on the project:

  1. Construction of new twin pipelines on the N20 National Primary Route through Buttevant town up to 5m deep.
  2. Removal of existing pipelines and culvert systems, dealing with live flows.
  3. Construction of a 5m deep ‘Cast In-situ’ reinforced concrete pumping station and Stormwater holding tank constructed adjacent to the Awbeg River in Buttevant.
  4. 4.5m deep precast concrete pumping station with cast in-situ valve chambers and associated siteworks.
  5. Upgrade of existing pumping station and control building, asphalt surfacing, palisade fencing etc.
  6. Construction of Ductile Iron Rising Mains and ductile iron/PVC Watermains.
  7. River crossing / Pipeline construction across the ‘Old Bridge’ in Buttevant which was constructed in the 12th Century and is of significant Archaeological importance. (Oversee archaeological and structural monitoring of the Bridge). Structural attachment of pipework supports to the Stonework Bridge.
  8. Road reinstatement and street upgrade works.
  9. Significant Traffic Control on National Primary Route.
  10. Archaeological, Structural monitoring of the works.
  11. Ecological monitoring and reporting.
